HPC Cluster Account Requests

Request an Account (BC College Affiliated)

Boston College offers free access to the High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster. To obtain an account, requests for new projects and/or additional members for a project, Faculty or Principle Investigator (PI) must apply through email. New group members requesting access to the cluster as part of an existing project will need to obtain approval from the Faculty or PI for that project.

Please include the following information when sending project or new membership requests to the intake form below or to researchservices@bc.edu.

https://www.bc.edu/bc-web/offices/its/services/research-services.html

  • The name of the faculty Member or Principal Investigator (PI)
  • If this is a new project, include a short abstract (less than 100 words) describing their work on the cluster, which will be displayed on the Research Projects list on the Research Service website
  • The full name and BC username for all members to be added to the project group
  • If this is for a new project create a project name, or if you are joining an existing project provide the current project name. The project name should be a unique identifier for your group, different from the PI’s login name, and it should consist of a 3-10 character alphanumeric string.

After submitting a short abstract, project owners can request that new members be added to their group at any time. We will ask each research group to update their abstracts and identify their group members annually.

Request An Affiliate Cluster Account for Non-BC User

We also offer accounts on the High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster to individuals who are not affiliated with BC but collaborate with faculty or Principal Investigators at Boston College. These accounts are valid for one year and need to be renewed yearly.

  1. Boston College faculty sponsors request guest accounts for your external collaborator who is outside BC through the following link: https://bc.edu/guestaccess

Please email the following information to Production Services at prodserv@bc.edu:

  • Guest’s full name
  • BC sponsor’s full name, Eagle ID, and department
  • Estimated date of stay (in MM/DD/YYYY format, the date should be within one year)
  • Guest’s date of birth (for identification, password maintenance, and security verification)
  • State the purpose of the request

Note: If the collaborator has recently graduated from BC or worked at BC before, their account is already in the system and needs activation. Please provide only the information for the first three items in the list above.

  1. Once the guest account is created, the user will be provided with Boston College credentials, including a BC username, email, and Eagle ID, etc. We can then create an affiliate Cluster Account to grant them access to the cluster behind the BC firewall.
