HPC Cluster Account Requests

Request an Account for Boston College user

Boston College offers free access to the High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster. To obtain an account, requests for new projects and/or additional members for a project, Faculty or Principle Investigator (PI) must apply through email. New group members requesting access to the cluster as part of an existing project will need to obtain approval from the Faculty or PI for that project.

Please include the information listed below when requesting a new project or project membership through our intake form: https://bc.edu/researchhelp

  1. The name of the faculty Member or Principal Investigator (PI)
  2. If this is a new project, include a short abstract (less than 100 words) describing their work on the cluster, which will be displayed on the Research Projects list on the Research Service website
  3. The full name and BC username for all members to be added to the project group
  4. If this is for a new project create a project name, or if you are joining an existing project provide the current project name. The project name should be a unique identifier for your group, different from the PI’s login name, and it should consist of a 3-10 character alphanumeric string.

After submitting a short abstract, project owners can request that new members be added to their group at any time. We will ask each research group to update their abstracts and identify their group members annually.

Request An Affiliate Cluster Account for Non-BC User

We also offer accounts on the High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster to individuals who are not affiliated with BC but collaborate with faculty or Principal Investigators at Boston College. These accounts are valid for one year and need to be renewed yearly.

Please email the following information to Production Services at prodserv@bc.edu and carbon copy wei.qiu.2@bc.edu:

  1. Guest’s full name
  2. BC sponsor’s full name and Eagle ID
  3. Estimated date of stay (within 1 year using MM/DD/YYYY format)
  4. Guest’s date of birth (a system requirement for identification, password maintenance, and security verification)
  5. State the purpose of the request and its relation to the university

Note: If the collaborator has recently graduated from BC or worked at BC before, their account is already in the system and needs activation. Please provide only the information for the first three items in the list above (including their 8-digit Eagle ID).

  • Once the guest account is approved and created, Production Services will send the Sponsor the guests BC account information, including their 8-digit BC Eagle ID Number and their BC Username. The Research Services team will then create an affiliate cluster account to grant them access to the cluster behind the BC firewall.
