Gemini Notebooks for Researchers

You likely already have access to all notebooks. If not, simply do the following:
•  Click the “Join group” button on the Research Services Gemini Notebooks Access page
•  On the pop-up window click “Join group” again to confirm (you will be immediately added).
•  After joining, you can leave the page and navigate to one of our Notebooks using the link below.

Note: we will never email or otherwise contact members of the Google Group; it is strictly for the purpose of sharing the Gemini Notebooks with the BC research community.

General-purpose AI tools draw on broad bodies of information that may include outdated, incomplete, or misleading material, and users cannot always know which sources have informed a response. Our EAGLETs take a different approach by providing AI support for research using trusted sources carefully selected and reviewed by our team of data acquisition analysts, computational consultants, and expert statisticians. The sources are evaluated for their reliability and reviewed to reflect current guidance and documentation relevant to conducting high-quality research at BC.

Researchers can use these notebooks for practical help with implementing research methodology, including setting up surveys in REDCap and Qualtrics, writing SLURM scripts for the HPC cluster, and working with statistical software such as R and Stata. Because the AI responses are grounded in sources reviewed by our team, researchers can use these resources with greater confidence in the guidance they receive.

The notebooks are not intended to replace research consultation. Instead, they extend the support we provide by helping researchers put expert guidance into practice when working independently. Our aim is to make reliable research support more accessible while helping researchers carry out their work carefully and confidently. By bridging the gap between research consultation and independent execution, these tools empower our research community to apply rigorous analytical techniques with greater confidence.

Researchers can use the notebooks in a variety of ways depending on their needs. The notebooks can help you understand how a research approach fits your question and data, locate and make sense of relevant literature, and work through practical questions that arise during a project. They can also provide implementation guidance, whether you are setting up a survey, planning data acquisition, working with the HPC cluster, or performing a statistical analysis.

Each notebook includes a variety of studio tools to explore topics in a more accessible format. Some features include:
•  Audio overviews with interactive Q&A
•  Videos that explain key concepts and methods
•  Slides and infographics for visual learning and quick reference
•  Mindmaps to help you explore connections between concepts

The studio tools are a useful starting point for familiarizing yourself with a topic, but for more detailed questions or guidance specific to your work, we encourage you to interact directly with the notebook chat interface and refer back to the underlying sources. As with any AI-assisted tool, researchers should use their own judgment and consult the original documentation or a member of the research support team when appropriate.
