NotebookLMs for Researchers

The Academic Research Services team is excited to introduce our first series of NotebookLMs for Applied Research. The notebooks function as interactive learning guides for researchers exploring advanced statistical topics. As always, we advise researchers to schedule a consultation with the Research Services Statistical Team in advance of putting advanced statistical methodologies into practice. You can do so by filling out a ticket at bc.edu/researchhelp.

How do I get access to the NotebookLMs?

Simply click the “Join group” button on the Research Services NotebookLM Access page, and on the pop-up window click “Join group” again to confirm – you will be immediately added to our Google Group. After joining, you can leave the page and navigate to one of our Notebooks using the link below. (Note: we will never email or otherwise contact members of the Google Group; it is strictly for the purpose of sharing the NotebookLMs with the BC research community.)

Why should I use these Notebooks instead of using Gemini/ChatGPT/Claude?

The NotebookLMs are based solely on sources curated by our team of expert statisticians, so users can be reassured that responses are accurately informed by the most current recommendations in applied research methodology. Our goal in creating these resources is to  ensure that AI assistance for research at BC is grounded in verified documentation and high-quality data sources. Researchers can use these notebooks for implementation support in standard statistical software programs (e.g., R, STATA)

By bridging the gap between statistical consultation and independent execution, these tools empower our research community to apply rigorous analytical techniques with greater confidence.

How do I interact with the Notebooks to benefit from the available features?

Researchers may interact with the Notebooks to understand the intended use case of each method, access relevant and vetted literature, receive guidance on when the methodology is appropriate based on data structure and research questions, or even listen to audio overviews to learn more about the topic. The notebooks may also offer practical advice on implementation using industry-standard software, including R and STATA.

Each notebook includes a variety of studio tools to explore. Some features include:

  • Audio overviews (with interactive Q&A!)
  • Videos
  • Slides and infographics
  • Mindmaps
