While the HPC cluster is intended for batch processing for the fastest, most efficient use of resources, it’s very common for researchers to develop and even run their workloads using Graphical User Interface (GUI). Since physical access to the HPC cluster isn’t available, X11 forwarding or a Remote Desktop Protocol is needed to display the GUI remotely.
Depending on the work you’re doing and the operating system on the machine you’ll be using to connect to the cluster, there may be multiple options available to you. However, if you are new to HPC, we recommended using RDP sessions as they give the easiest to setup and use environment.
